Afro Hair!

It was a cool Saturday evening and I was spending some quality time with my children. Whilst they sat up watching a program on TV, I involuntarily ran my fingers through my newly growing natural hair, and felt guilty of relaxing it when I did couple of years ago. It made me to ponder on the revolution of women proudly bearing their natural African hair and loving it.

For me relaxing or perming my natural hair then was to make it easier to maintain, but it comes with a price; of burnt scalp, hair breakage and splits ends over the years, especially with change of environment.

African hair has been hiding for a very long time, behind relaxers or weaves for a very long time. To some, societal views including acceptance hinders women proudly bearing their natural Afro, but instead, they go for relaxing their hair. For others, it is the manageability. In addition, weather conditions in some countries also inevitably compel women to choose relaxing over the natural Afro curls.

From my discussion with some of my friends, I realised that many love to bear natural hair, but knowing the right products to use as well as different styling tips are major obstacles.

Whether home or abroad, there are tips and lovely organic hair products that can help to manage lovely Afro hair proudly. Below are few natural hair products/tips to maintaining lovely Afro hair and these lists are by no means exhaustive:
  • Coconut oil
  • Shea butter
  • Balanced diet
  • Water
  • Deep conditioner
  • Honey
You may check YouTube channel for different styling techniques to spice up things.

Finally, whether relaxed hair or Natural Afro curls, whichever is your call, manageability is the essential ingredient to maintaining a healthy hair.
